Let me introduce myself. I am Shelley Thornton.
I have lived and painted in the north (Yorkshire), the east (Cambridge), the south (Surrey), and now the west (St Ives, Cornwall).
I am influenced by both the exterior world and my own thoughts, feelings and emotions. Time and space are a particular theme.
I work in acrylics, mixed media and oils and my work is characterised by both texture and tone. My paintings are on either canvas or board and whilst many are designed to be unframed, the frame is an integral part of others.
I often work in vibrant colours as it is colour that lights up our lives and affects our moods. Words and poetry often feature in my work. If a picture tells a thousand words, then what does a picture with words tell? Many of my recent works are influenced by the ocean, in particular the Cornish coastline, landscape, light and way of life - hence the name ARTlantic.
