These paintings provide a visceral depiction of the fraility of the human mind – mental illness, addiction and suicidal tendencies. Time is ticking on the brain. The title and the time of “The 5.15″, and the lyrics in 6.15 “Inside, Outside…Leave Me Alone”, are taken from The Who song of the same name from the album Quadrephenia: “out of my brain on the five fifteen, out of my brain on the train”. 6.15 is simply an hour later. The mind has retreated and shrunk although the outside world is occupying a quadrant despite the plea to “leave me alone”.
