The Vessels Collection grew from quiet walks around St Ives Harbour during the first lockdown of 2020, when the stillness of the fishing boats and the hush over the town created an almost surreal calm.
As life gradually returned, the paintings shifted too – becoming brighter and more dynamic in hopeful moments, more muted when times felt heavy. Together, they form a largely uplifting body of work.
Each piece nods not only to the boats but also to water, sand, and the glowing Harbour sunsets, as well as Shelley’s own emotional tides.
Look closely at the bold colour fields and you’ll find etched lines and marks, echoing the weathered surfaces of working boats – each scratch a trace of journeys made and turning tides.

The Shorelines Collection grew from a deep response to the luminous beaches of St Ives and the wider Cornish coast. Porthminster and Porthmeor, Shelley’s most cherished shorelines, sit at the heart of the series.
The works draw on the quiet magic of early‑morning sea swims, taken before the beaches fill with visitors and ocean craft, as well as long days spent watching her daughters surf, train in surf life saving, and play in the clear turquoise waters.
Each piece distils the essence of these places—sea and sky, shifting horizons, the geometry of surrounding rocks and buildings, the familiar language of beach signs and flags—abstracted into colour, texture, and rhythm.

The Ghost Ships Collection is inspired by derelict, decommissioned, and long‑lost vessels – structures that once carried purpose and movement but now exist as fragments of memory.
These works often incorporate found materials, echoing the weathered surfaces and residual histories of the ships themselves.
The series sits in dialogue with the Vessels Collection, which focuses more directly on the forms and labour of working boatyards, while Ghost Ships explores what remains when that labour ceases.

The Sunsets Collection emerged from a deep fascination with the extraordinary sundowns of St Ives and the wider Cornish coast.
Cornish sunsets sweep across the warm end of the spectrum—radiant yellows, molten golds, soft pinks, fiery oranges and deep reds—shifting subtly with every change in light and every vantage point along the shore.
Porthmeor Beach appears often in the collection, its vast horizon and uninterrupted westerly view offering some of the most breathtaking sunsets.

The Harbour Collection draws on the elemental textures and atmospheres of a working harbour—water and sky, sand and wood, concrete and granite, metals, salt, and rust.
Many of the abstractions incorporate found materials, echoing the physicality and weathered character of the shoreline.
The series sits in close dialogue with the Vessels Collection, which focuses more specifically on the forms and labour of boatworks.

The Wild & the Still Collection contains works from Shelley’s Swimming Pools and Salt Lines series inspired by both Shelley’s own amateur swimming and time spent watching both her young daughters compete in pool and open water swimming.
Containing male and female symbolism, the still works (swimming pools) abstract the lines on the pool floor, the lane lines, and the overhead flags, whereas the wild (open water) works abstract the boundary between bodies of water in the ocean and project salt and rust.

The London Landmarks Collection explores some of the city’s most recognisable buildings, set within evocative urban landscapes.
They usually begin with a broader composition that establishes the landmark in its environment, then subsequent works are developed that delve into the nuances of its architecture, atmosphere, and material presence. The abstractions often weave in found materials that mirror the textures of the cityscape, paired with snippets of poetry or lyrics that heighten the piece’s emotional depth.

The Cornish Landmarks Collection celebrates the iconic buildings that punctuate Cornwall’s dramatic land and seascapes. Many of these structures carry an industrial past, reflecting Shelley’s enduring fascination with industrial heritage and its dialogue with the natural world.
The abstractions often incorporate found materials that echo the textures of the landscape, alongside fragments of poetry or lyrics that deepen each work’s emotional resonance. Light becomes a central player: refracted, fractured, and reassembled so the compositions take on a prism‑like quality, drawing subtly on the language of Cubism.
