I’m delighted to have Radiance 3 selected for the Penwith Gallery’s first Associates Exhibition of 2023.
The Penwith Associates’ open calls are always massively over subscribed and it’s always a tense time waiting to hear if you’ve been one of the lucky ones to have artwork selected by the show’s curators. I’m delighted to say that I have again been successful. It’s a very prestigious Gallery and a great honour to feature in it.
Created late last year, Radiance 3 forms a part of my VESSELS Collection – initially inspired by boatworks in St Ives Harbour where I live and work.
Radiance 3 is the little sister of the larger Radiance artworks.
The term Vessel in this collection has the obvious nautical meaning and so you may see an orange and yellow boat with its hull resting on the sand, with decorative markings in blue and white. You may also see a sunset in the Harbour with the glowing coppers and orange and yellows.
But look deeper and you’ll find lines and scratches as though the boat is telling a story of each and every turning tide and trip out to sea. Whatever you see, it represents my responses to the natural and man-made landscape.
Whilst primarily in acrylics, there are other materials present. The sand that you see does contain real sand. The copper stripe contains real copper and the darker stripe contains particles of rust.
The show is on at Penwith Gallery and runs from Friday 27th January to Saturday 25th February 2023.
