Tower Blue 3 forms part of my London Landmarks Collection – recreating iconic buildings of London.
I spent many years working in and around London and love wandering near Tower Bridge – immersing myself in its history and maritime heritage.
My representations of Tower Bridge abstract from details of the stonework and the ironwork and also represent Tower Beach on the banks of the Thames near the bridge.
I’ve used found materials in the painting such as Cornish Granite dust, Portland Stone, sand, and rivets to reflect the architecture and setting of the Tower. The colour palette is also drawn from the building’s setting. The shapes and the grid of the painting echo the man-made forms. I wanted to emphasise the muscularity and industrial feel of the Tower.
The work can be hung using the hangings attached, or can be hung direct to the wall on screws or nails.
