Shelley was longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2024.
The Aesthetica Art Prize celebrates contemporary art across a range of media. It champions some of the world’s most significant talent and contributes towards a global dialogue around today’s creative practices.
The Aesthetica Art Prize is a place of discovery. Art is the mechanism by which we can begin to make sense of a rapidly changing world. If there has ever been a time that we need art in our lives, it is now.
The Jury Panel for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2024 comprised influential art figures, including curators, academics and artists whose expertise spans all media. The curators come from galleries including the Serpentine Galleries, Turner Contemporary, the Baltic and IKON.
The curators remarked on the exceptional range and the high quality of entries this year and Shelley is honoured to be longlisted out of the many thousands of entries. Her selection is based on two groups of works and her practice as a whole. The two groups of works are the collection of nine smaller Porthminster works plus the two larger Radiance works pictured here.
Longlisted works are displayed digitally on shared screens which are placed alongside the finalists’ group exhibition at Yorkshire Art Gallery up in York from 16 February to 21 April 2024. They are also available to view online : Shelley Thornton – Aesthetica Art Prize (aestheticamagazine.com).
