Oxo Tower Red is a largish artwork that creates a bold visual statement.
It forms part of my London Landmarks Collection – exploring some of the city’s most recognisable buildings, set within evocative urban landscapes.
Having spent many years working in and around London, I’ve always been drawn to the South Bank—its layered histories, its maritime past, and the quiet drama of its architecture. Oxo Wharf, in particular, has long captivated me. Originally built as a power station, it was later acquired by the makers of Oxo stock cubes. When the Tower was constructed, its windows were designed to “coincidentally” spell out OXO—a clever workaround at a time when skyline advertising was prohibited.
My interpretations of the Oxo Tower and its surroundings distil elements of the building and its setting: the brickwork, the iron structures, the industrial signage, and even the small stretch of beach revealed at low tide along the Thames. These fragments become the foundation for abstraction.
I incorporate found materials—brick dust, sand, iron oxide—to echo the Wharf’s industrial character and physical presence. The palette is drawn directly from the site, while the grid and geometric forms reference the man‑made structures that define the area. Through these choices, I aim to convey the muscularity and raw, architectural energy of the Wharf.
The work can be hung using the hangings attached, or can be hung direct to the wall on screws or nails.
